A is for....anyone awake?

If you read my last blog post (which I totally don't blame you if you didn't cause I mean, it was about finals and stuff...and those kinda suck...), you wouldn't be surprised that my roommates and I were at the library studying until 2:00 last night. As we were ascending from the second floor (our designated study floor....the periodicals...great place) we were somewhat dismayed to see that it was raining outside. No, not raining. More like sleeting. At first we grumbled about having to walk home in it, but once outside, the world became our slip n slide! Our cold, wet, slushy, icy slip n slide! At some point, on the way home, Tanisha had this great idea that we should wash our hair in the rain! Well since it was actually warm enough to rain (as opposed to snow) and probably more since it was 2:00 in the morning, we all agreed that this was, in fact, a wondrous idea!

So we quickly ran inside and swapped our books for shampoo and ran back outside, doing our best to get our hair as wet as we could. As it turns out, it's not as easy as you'd think. It actually takes quite awhile for
enough rain to accumulate on your head to sufficiently lather and rinse. (Okay, to just lather--rinsing is a whole 'nother story) Tanisha actually took the liberty of dipping her lusciously long hair into the water running down the sidewalk in attempt to get it wet enough (hey, she was washing it anyway). Well this was all fun and stuff washing our hair, but like I said, it took longer than anticipated to get through the "lather" stage, aint nobody got time for "rinse" and "repeat!"

It was late and we were cold at this point so we decided it was time to go inside and finish up our little shower experience in the warmth of our apartment. We all kind of stood by the door waiting for someone to grab out their key to let us all in.....and we waited....and we waited...and lo
and behold, nobody had a key! Yeah, that was a fun realization to make at 2:30 in the morning, in the pouring rain, in the middle of December....But no big deal, right? I mean, we had two other roommates who weren't with us. All we had to do was wake them up and have them come let us in....so we called Shalee....and then Chandler...and then Shalee....oh, but luckily, we're on the first floor! So we just ran around and started pounding on Shalee's window....and then Chandler's window....of course! It just had to be the two heaviest sleepers who weren't with us!

It's funny, like the first week of the semester, Tanisha went through a similar experience, being locked out of our apartment. I had a hard time believing that we didn't wake up to her repeated phone calls and window pounding.....now I know better. I feel her pain.

So back to the story, it's pouring rain, we're freezing cold, there's shampoo in our hair, and we just want to go inside! Luckily, the light is on in the apartment above ours, who just so happen to be our FHE sisters! So we quickly try to figure out who it is that is crazy enough to be awake at almost 3:00 in the morning during finals week and then quickly start making phone calls! I imagine it was pretty funny for Bri to answer the phone and hear "Hi, so we noticed that you're watching tv or something (Bri said she thought we were calling to tell her to turn it down), so funny story, we kind of are locked out of the building...." It was pretty funny to see Bri run to the window and look down at our poor, pitiful, lathered up selves. Since she is pretty much the greatest person in the world, she let us in the building, reassuring us that we could join her for Christmas movies upstairs if we couldn't get in to our apartment.

Finally out of the rain, we were faced with the last barrier between us and a hot shower. The door to our apartment. Of course, if Shalee and Chandler didn't wake up to us knocking on their windows, there was no way they would wake up to us knocking on our front door! So we kind of just sat there in the hallway, repeatedly calling them, praying that the incessant vibrating of a cell phone would wake one of them up. It didn't. :/ Well at least we were inside the building....we could rinse our hair out in the sink in the lobby bathroom and sleep on the couches in the activity room....yeah that was a solid plan for the night before our last finals...Finally, Kelsi got this great idea that had somehow escaped us from the very beginning and texted our RA! Luckily, she was awake and was at our door in no time. She took one look at us--dripping wet with shampoo and towels in our hands, and decided it was probably for the better to not ask questions.

So next time it's raining and you have a brilliant plan to wash your hair in the great outdoors, here are a few key things to remember:
1) It takes FOREVER to get your hair as wet as a shower can get it. Unless you're planning on sticking your head in the snow or in the rainwater running down the sidewalk, either plan for when you have some spare time, or maybe do some preliminary dampening of your hair.
2) TAKE A KEY!
3) If you're planning on forgetting your key, you probably should not engage in this activity at the wee hours of the night when your building is locked, and everyone is asleep.
With those three things in mind, happy showering to ya!
